Benson - In the committee of conference, there was some positions restored to the dept. of health and human services. What I'd like to do is find a way to eliminate those restored positions. It's about a $2 million number over the biennium. Sen. Green - I'm wondering why you're so fixed on that issue where we spent 5 months going over all of these positions, all of these programs and wanted to make sure the services were being provided to the people of the state. And I think what you're proposing is not consistent with what your original pledge was when you gave us a committment to help people when you first became governor. And I'm very concerned that you're back there again. What is it that is gnawing at you that you want to cut Health and Human Services? Benson - I am not fixated on cutting anything. What I want to do is make sure we use our resources as wisely as possible. |

We're used to getting national media attention here in New Hampshire. For one reason we have the first in the nation primary. But this week, the reporters and cameras were here not to cover political campaigning, but to cover the story of Manuel Gehring. Gehring is accused of murdering his two children, 14 year old Sarah and 11 year old Philip. Their father was returned to New Hampshire this week. And yesterday, he pleaded innocent to charges that he murdered his two children. Authorities say they are getting tips in the search for the brother and sister. |
